ID-card software installation and configuration under Windows Vista and Windows 7
Solution Here are some instructions how to get your ID-card working under Windows Vista and also Windows 7.

Start by restating your computer to avoid any complications caused by background programs.

1.
Connect your card reader with computer and insert your ID-card. Wait while smart card reader drivers are being automatically installed. NB! Windows 7 can display an error about not finding correct drivers for your smart card. This error should be ignored as it's caused by misunderstanding on Windows 7 side, that considers your ID-card as a hardware device and tries to find drivers for it, which is not really needed.

2.
To install ID-card software you need administrator rights so either log into your administrator account or contact your IT support person if you do not have access to that account. After acquiring administrator rights go to address https://installer.id.ee . Download and install software packages according to the onscreen instructions.

2.1 If for some reason automatic configuration for Mozilla Firefox fails then read this article.

3. If you managed to install ID-card software but you can not enter e-services then:

3.1 Run ID-card utility by choosing from Start menu: Programs->ID-Kaart->ID-kaardi utiliit.

3.2  Choose from menu "Certificates-> Register

3.3 If your certificates have expired then instructions how to renew them can be found  HERE.

4.
It is also advised to install latest Java version from www.java.com and restart your computer. Now your ID-card software is ready for use.

NB! If you have 64-bit Windows Vista / 7 version then always use ID-card with 32-bit version of web browsers. (it's possible to choose from programs menu which version you want to run, but the default icons should always refer to the 32bit versions anyway)
NB! If you are still unable to enter e-services then the cause can be with too high security settings. Also the problems can be caused by spyware and antivirus programs, which should then be either turned off or modified to let ID-card connections through. Internet Explorer security settings (Tools->Internet Options->Security) should not be higher than default Medium-High setting.
